Plans for the training weekend

It is only a couple of weeks now till the training weekend at the Oak Tree Inn on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st January. The run on the Saturday will be from Balmaha to Inversnaid and back, a distance of 30 miles, although if people want to do less than this then they are of course welcome to do so. The plan is to start the run at 10am sharp from outside the Oak Tree Inn, so if you are not staying but planning to come along for the run please meet there at 9.50 am. There should be sufficient light until about 5 pm, but as a safety measure please carry a headtorch with you. As ever, the weather can change dramatically over the course of the day so make sure you also have adequate gear.

There are no formal plans for a run on the Sunday but people are free to make their own arrangements, depending on how they are feeling after the Saturday. Also, we are not planning anything formal for the Friday or Saturday nights, but it will be a good chance to have a chat in the bar with other like minded people about their training, their previous experiences, and anything else you want to chat about.

There are a few people who have still to contact the Oak Tree and pay for their room - if you are in this category please do this asap. Also, there have been a couple of cancellations so there may be a few spaces still available; again please contact the Oak Tree directly on 01360 870357 if you are interested.

I look forward to seeing you there.

From Ian Beattie (whw Race Director) Monday 24th October 2011 ....

We are planning to hold a ‘WHW training weekend’ on 20/21 January 2012 at the Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha

The plan would be for everyone to meet there on the Friday night, catch up in the bar, then do a 30 mile training run to Inversnaid and back on the Saturday.  We would then stay overnight on the Saturday for some informal chat in the bar, with people free to arrange their own runs for the Sunday morning if they fancied.

I have spoken to the Oak Tree and provisionally booked the whole place.  The number of rooms available and the prices are as shown below.

If you would like to go please send your room request directly to me ianbeattie@westhighlandwayrace.org I will then keep a note of the rooms and liaise directly with the Oak Tree.  I can also ‘pair up’ single people who are happy to share a twin room. Just let me know.

The hotel has only agreed to keep the rooms booked on a provisional basis for a week (Friday 28th October 2011), so the sooner people let me know the better.

The rates shown below are per room per night for bed and breakfast.  First come first served!

Ian

11 twin rooms @ £37.50 per room per night

7 double rooms @ £37.50 per room per night

4 deluxe doubles @ £50.00 per room per night

2 bunk (sleep 4 in each) £60.00 per room per night

  1 family room ( quad ) @ £60.00 per room per night

1 family room (double room and twin room adjoining with 1 en-suite) @ £60.00 per room per night

1 family room (double room and adjoining bunk bed room with 1 en-suite) @ £60.00 per room per night

Update on Monday 21st November 2011 ....

There are a couple of places left at the Oak Tree on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st January 2012 for the training weekend.  If you are still interested in attending and have not yet reserved a place, please contact the Oak Tree directly on 01360 870357 to enquire about availability.

If you have reserved a place and have not yet paid, please arrange to do so by phoning the Oak Tree on the same number.
