Pauline Walker I first completed the WHW back in 1997. 97 miles in 35 hours (it was longer back then and I’ve still got the certificate to prove it!) right I thought - I’ll give that a bash!
I really didn’t have a clue what I was getting myself into as my longest run prior to that had been the Two Bridges Race, a distance of 36 miles, however I was successful and even had an hour to spare but my goodness me that was quite a learning experience!
I went back the following year and knocked 5 ½ hours off my time and that was it – I was hooked. I had a magic year in 2008 when I finished in daylight (only just!).
The WHW is a brilliant adventure and the camaraderie is just wonderful to experience whether you’re running or crewing. Having done both I have to say that running is definitely the easier job!
Looking forward to June and saying Hi to the family.
