Favourite Band and/or Singer

Favourite Band and/or Singer

Postby Dave Waterman » Sun Feb 28, 2010 9:28 pm

OK...for Ross or Stan this post needs to be put in a slot on its own entitled 'General Stuff' or somthing similar. But one of the endearing qualities of the old forum was that one could rattle on about anything, running related or otherwise. At the moment our new forum restricts us to the existing headings (all with 'running' in the title).

This is to ask....

Who are your five favourite bands and/or singers? If yours have a running related meaning you score extra points....or get labelled a saddo.....not sure yet. But mine would be:

1. Bob Dylan
2. The Pogues
3. The Airborne Toxic Event
4. Martha Wainwright
5. Neil Diamond

Close behind would be Nirvana, The Clash, Johnny Burnette, Gene Vincent, Foo Fighters, Beck, Babybird, Sex Pistols.

What say you?

The question was 5 favourite bands and/or singers and you've told us your favourite toast topper, Unc Dunc! I have some interesting Jam here that I think you'd like.

So.........you lot are so running obsessed you don't listen to music, eh? (DQ...I know that's not the case with you, old boy). Sheesh....I'm off to the Airborne Toxic Event forum, bye!

Current top 5 bands/artists:

1 - Biffy Clyro
2 - Alice In Chains
3 - Funeral For A Friend
4 - Billy Joel
5 - Tom Petty

All great bands/artists and have got me through some hard runs over the years.

I'm wondering what else people listen to apart from music when running? I know a lot of people chose not to listen to anything but as a lot of my runs are by myself and fairly long I tend to have some form of audio to keep to company. Favourites are Clyde Super 1 Scoreboard on the radio on a Saturday afternoon, the Chris Moyles podcast (I'm not going to apologise, I find him funny  ), the BBC Scotland Outdoors podcast (kinda like the Adventure Show but their camera's broken) and the BBC Chequered Flag F1 podcast.

Aybody know of any good podcasts worth checking out?

This is a tough one. I have such a wide taste in music that to pick my favorite would be hard. Like the poster above I'll choose my current play-list.

1. Johnny Cash (total legend)
2. Neil Diamond ('I am' I say- superb)
3. Caitlin Rose (uh! heaven)
4. The Airborne Toxic Event (sublime)
5. Green Day (I'm not supposed to admit to that)

There are loads more, but these are the bands that are filling my ears at the moment :D

i'm liking JohnK's headbangin' tastes but i'm a bit uncomfortable with Neil D****nd being mentioned twice on some playlists!!

my current playlist is a bit like this

Midlake -Trials of Van Occupanther (been on the cd player for near on 2 years)
The National -Boxer (real grower)
Jethro Tull -Aqualung (classic)
Frank Turner -Poetry of the Deed (something new, uppy and dance-able)
Ween -Chocolate and Cheese (another classic- check out 'Mister Would You Please Help My Pony' for Ween at their very best(!))

Russell there's loads of great ultrarunning related podcasts HERE

Ritchie
I have it on good authority that the majestic Jethro Tull are playing the Glasgow Pavillion on 30th March.

Pussy Willow anyone?

Ahh Greame, you can't beat a good old trip down fur-lined avenue.

On the off-chance that anyone reading this hasn't heard the awesome Pussy Willow then HERE it is (complete with Ph*l Co***ns on drums). One day I'm going to be this cool...

I would have to agree with others Dear Boy, my favs depend on season, mood, sobriety etc.

Current favs (in no particular order):

Band of Horses
Motorhead
Steve Earle
Glen Hansard
Athlete

(I have been listening to bit of Argent again as well)

Best tracks to run to at the moment:

Motorhead - Overkill
Motorhead - Bomber
Black Sabbath - Neon Knights
Pearl Jam - Alive
Kings of Leon - Sex on Fire (takes my mind off running this one)

A bit of a mixed bag but then I am a strange kind of guy.

Yes you are a strange kinda guy, DQ but a loveable one nonetheless.

Liking your BOH, not so your Lemmy-Motorhead stuff. What about The Flaming Lips? Very BOH-like and did a great version of Plastic Jesus.
