West Highland way Race 2010 - Process for allocating places
Objective
The race committee's objective is to establish a fair, simple and transparent process for the allocation of places in the event that the race is over-subscribed. Circumstances this year have required that the process be explained after the event but the race committee sincerely hope that the general principles can be applied for future races.
Allocation Process
The Race Committee sets a target, for the number of starters, for 2010 the target is 175 starters.
All entries received by the race committee, either electronic or paper, whilst entries are open will be considered for allocation purposes. This year the period was 1 Nov 22 Nov. Entries received after the open period will be considered for inclusion on a reserve list.
The following explains the stages of the process and its application this year.

The above may join the starting list at any point.
A valid entry form must be received by the closing date, 22 Nov, for all others.
Rollovers from the 2009 race will be honoured( Does not apply for future years) 15
Entrants who have completed 5 or more WHW races 18
Previous winners of the race, male and female 2
Any entrant who has or may make a significant contribution to the race 0
A 2 stage ballot is then entered into for the balance of starting places, 140 places this year
Stage 1 All entries from those who meet the full qualification requirements AND who have not started the race before will be balloted for 25% of the available places. 35
Stage 2 First timers who were unsuccessful at Stage 1 and all other qualifying entries will be entered into a ballot for the remaining places. 105
Applicants who are unsuccessful in the ballot process will entered on to a reserve list and will take priority over those entrants whose applications are received after the closing entry date, this year 22 Nov.
Provisional Acceptances
Applicants who receive a provisional acceptance that requires them to complete an off road >65km race will be placed on the reserve list and will be considered for inclusion on the starting list by the race committee as and when they meet the qualification requirement. Please be sure to advise us when this is met.
Reserve List
A reserve list will be maintained and managed by the race committee. The reserve list is currently open.
